1. What is the relationship between claims and evidence?
The relationship btween claims and evidence is rarely self-evidence. Hence, the claims must be explained by the evidence.

2. Why is this important?
My understanding of this question is that what can evidence do for the claims.
first of all, to substantiate the claims. sometimes, writers use the unsubstantiate claims without any explaination but only the conclusion.
Then the evidence can help us to test our ideas and primary analysis.
Evidence could explain and define some key words accurately and precisely.
Finally, to qualify of claims.

3. How can you apply this to your own academic writing, especially when secondary sources are involved?
A. to select telling piece of the data. Not  all parts of evidence are useful. You have to frame the data for your analysis.
B. to explain these evidences
C. to show the relationship or connection between your claims and evidence
D. try to qualify or imporve your claims within the evidence.
